Day #3 a.k.a. Ground Day #2

Same old - same old. Cloudy at the resort in Welches, rain/mist in Govy and broke through the clouds at mile marker #3 on the Timberline Road. It was clear and cold at Timberline but thankfully the gale force winds of yesterday had died down to a more moderate level.

There was a light dusting of snow overnight and it had remained so cold that they were unable to groom. The lanes were rock hard and course setting was a bit tricky where ruts from the day before had not been completely filled in on the final slip run yesterday.

The morning flew by and everyone was doing run after run as the courses held up and there were no liftlines. I don't think in the past 16 years of coming out to Mt. Hood that I have seen 3 straight days of perfect SL training, like the past 3 days.

Almost on cue the clouds started moving up the mountain. I took a break and skied to the end of the snowfield road and ducked under the out of bounds fences to get a few photos of the clouds moving up the White River Glacier; one of 11 glaciers on the mountain.

We spent the afternoon dealing with the change over from SL to GS. For day #1 of GS everyone will start with their own skis with the exception of the FIS athletes who have to move to the new compliant skis for next year. What was old is new again. Should be an interesting day ahead.
